There are only 2 more days to complete the total 10-day driving trip to Tohoku region in the autumn season. The 9th-day journey begins at Ashinomaki Onsen in Fukushima where it's surrounded by the number of moutains. The destination of the 9th-day trip is Hitachi city in Ibaraki where it faces the Pacific Ocean on the east side.
My first recommended spot is "Ouchi-Juku", a hidden-beauty old village deeply located in the valley of the south-side Aizu district in Fukushima. The Ouchi-Juku has been kept well as a entire old village where it used to be one of the traditional traveller's Inns during the Samurai-Edo period. You could enjoy your stay at the small old village and catch such a rural atmosphere in the surrounding natures.
Moving forward to the next destination, "Yunokami train station" which is considered a very countryside spot in the autumn season where you can enjoy the colourful scene together with the small and simple train station.
Nearby, there is the great nature's spot called "To-no-Hetsuri" which is the dynamic rock cliffs created by the natural powers in the long years. It would be the great view from the opposite side over the River as well as you could be impressed by the great nature's creation while trying to look them up by just standing under the rock cliffs.
On the way to Hitachi city, the final destination of the 9th-day journey, I would like to recommend you to stop at two different "Michi-no-Ekis", which are "Michi-no-Eki Shimogo" and "Michi-no-Eki Haniwa" along with the same road #289. You could find and buy interesting local specialities including local food/drinks/handicrafts and others.
After you enjoy shopping and tasting some local speciaties at the Michi-no-Eki station, there are three autumn-scenic spots that you can enjoy viewing in different ways.
The first one of my recommendation is "Yukiwari Bridge" being built over the deep valley. The 2nd recommendation is "Takikawa Gorge" where I would like to highly recommend you to take walking along with the nice river stream in the forest areas. The 3rd recommendation is "Hananuki Valley" which is selected as one of the best 100 autumn-scenic spots in Japan. The entire scenery in the valley indeed look so great and beautiful in the deep forests and mountains in the colourful autumn season. You should not miss out these 3 scenic spots in such small towns or villages that are not so known to people that you wouldn't be disturbed by big crowds.
