The "Hidden-Beauty" Small Towns / Villages in Japan - "Iwaizumi Town" in Iwate Prefecture

January 17, 2016

Today I would like to introduce a small town in term of population, but a largest town among Honshu Island (Japan's mainland) in term of the space.

Iwate Prefecture is located in the south-side of Aomori Prefecture and in the east-side of Akita Prefecture.  There are several highland mountain ranges on the west part of Iwate, while the east part of Iwate faces directly with Pacific Oceans.

"Iwaizumi Town" is positioned in the centre between Morioka (the capital of Iwate Prefecture) and Omote town at the coastside in the east side.  The speciality for the town is very clean and clear natrual water resources available from many spring water points.

3-1  Ryusendo Limestone Cave:

- It is well known as one of the best 3 limestone caves in Japan, other than Akiyoshido Cave (in Yamaguchi) and Ryugado Cave (in Kochi)

- It is clean natural waters available from Ryusendo Cave, which provides all the places in Iwaizumi town as drinking waters

- It is really "Emerald-Blue" natrual waters in Ryusendo Cave, when you are in there

3-2  Akkado Limestone Cave:

- Another Cave, which is considered as the longest limestone cave in Japan (23.7km)

- This cave is designated as a Natural Monument Treasury by the government

3-3  Kumano-Hana Observation Deck:

- The name of this place sounds quite funny, but it is a look-like as 2 noses of a bear in Japanese language

- The overall view in the coastline is dynamic and beautiful with strong waves and winds

3-4  Omoto Fishing Port

- Iwaizumi town has a quite small area which directly faces with Pacific Ocean in the east side

- There is a few small fishing ports, and Moto port is one of them

- It is not so popular port, but fresh seafoods are all the time available at very reasonable prices
