The "Hidden-Beauty" Small Towns / Villages in Japan - "Ogawara Town" in Miyagi Prefecture

The Ogawara town in Miyagi prefecture, sited in the south-west side of Sendai city as well as located between the Pacific Ocean and Shiroishi city, where both natures at seaside and at highland are available.

 

This town is best known for one of the best cherry-blossoms view spots in Miyagi prefecture, where more than 1,000 Sakura trees are planted on the river bank, along with the great-scenic Shiroishi River.

- The Total Area:  24.99 km2

- The Population: 23,752 persons (as of 2016)

- The Density of Population:  950 persons / km2

- The Railway:  There is one JR train station, which is Ogawara station under JR Tohoku Main Lines. 

- The Main Roads:  Only #4 National Road available within the town, and several local roads under Miyagi prefectural management

- The Bus:  The local Miyako Bus Company currently in operation

- The Airport:  The nearest airport is Sendai Domestic Airport in 40-minute drive from the town (about 25km).

3. The Recommended Spots for Sightseeing Near "Ogawara Town":

 

3-1 "Hitome" Senbon-Zakura (Glance Thousand Sakura Trees)  :

 

- This cherry-blossoms view spot is well known within Tohoku region.

- The place is selected as one of the best 100 cherry-blossoms view spots in Japan.

- The entire river bank, along with Shiroishi River becomes very beautiful white & pink cherry flower arcade in about 8km long.

- The place is a symbol of Ogasawara town for tour and leisure industry 

- The night illumination give visitors a different image and feeling

 

3-2  Ogawara Natural Onsen :

 

- The hot-spring is purely natural from the bottom of grounds 

- It make the town residents felt peacefully, especially in cold winter season

- There are two different hot-spring bathes, one for rocked-made, and another for wooden-made.

 

3-3 Otakayama Shrine:

 

- The shrine is the oldest and long-historic traditional building within the town, which was built in the year of 571.

- There are several pieces of the national-assigned important cultural treasuries at the shrine.

 

3-4  Insect Park :

 

- The park was built specifically for all the collection of various insects.

- The park is as broad as 6,000m2, where walking and trekking tracks are available for visitors.
